Message from the Head of School

I feel very privileged to be the eighth Head of Crofton House School at this wonderful time in the school's history -- a time when girls' schools in North America have truly come into their own. Dr. Jessie Gordon, our school's founder and first Head Mistress, had the inspiration and foresight to create an educational environment that taught young women to excel at a time when girls' education was not a priority. Today, we know that schools that validate girls' unique experiences and give them room to voice their hopes, fears, and personal concerns enable girls to deal with a major developmental task: defining their place in an increasingly complex world.

All-girls' schools offer the only educational environment that unabashedly and unapologetically makes the education, advancement, and achievement of girls its first priority. I am proud that Crofton House is such a school. We have an exceptional teaching faculty, who understand the learning needs of girls and believe wholeheartedly in the concepts of 21st century learning and "educating girls for life".

Our new senior school is the latest development of our beautiful campus. Our exceptional facilities along with such a committed faculty allow us to achieve our mission to "foster self-confidence, resilience, and creativity to enable each student to reach her unique potential". Veteran teachers work alongside newer teachers, both embracing the latest technology such as tablets and SMART boards. Our Junior School teachers are attuned to the unique learning needs of the younger student, while our Senior School teachers are subject specialists -- all are dedicated to preparing each girl to take a responsible role in society and to enjoy a lifelong enthusiasm for learning.

I invite you to visit our campus to see first-hand our outstanding facilities and beautiful grounds, and meet some of our talented students, teachers, and staff. I look forward to meeting you when you visit.

Patricia J. Dawson, Head of School
