Board of Governors

The Board of Governors of Crofton House School is made up of a group of dedicated, capable and willing individuals who all share a love of the school, a deep commitment to its vision, and an appreciation of the value of a first-class education for young women. The composition of the board reflects the balance of expertise and perspectives needed to achieve the mission of the school. To this end, each board member gives generously of his or her time, expertise, and resources and sits on up to two board committees depending on areas of interest.

The responsibilities of the board are numerous:

  • to prepare a clear statement of the school's mission and objectives and to work with the Head of School in partnership to fulfill these principles, while maintaining a clear boundary between the responsibilities of the board and those of the administration;
  • to review and maintain by-laws and establish policies and plans consistent with the mission;
  • to be accountable for the financial well-being of the school, including capital assets, operating budgets, fund-raising, and endowments;
  • to evaluate itself and the Head of School and establish goals for each upcoming year;
  • to comply with all applicable laws and regulations as outlined by the BC Ministry of Education;
  • to develop itself through new trustee orientation, ongoing education, and leadership succession planning; and
  • to select, support, and nurture the Head of School.

There are to be a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 18 board members, 12 of whom shall be elected by the members of the Society (the parents of the school and board members). Elected members may serve up to two consecutive three-year terms. To ensure continuity and institutional memory, at each annual general meeting four elected members retire and four new members are elected. Up to three additional members may be appointed for a one-year term. The Chairs of the Crofton House School Alumnae, Parents Auxiliary, and Foundation also sit on the board during their respective terms of office.

The Crofton House Board of Governors is a diverse group of powerful, enthusiastic, intelligent, long-range thinkers committed to the well-being and growth of the school.
