Archives
History is one of the touchstones of Crofton House School's identity. Memories of the school's past are incorporated into everyday living for the Crofton community through an archival presence in publications, displays, and teaching.
The Crofton House School Archives preserves two groups of permanent historical records:
1) institutional records created by Crofton House School; and
2) private records donated by alumnae and past staff and their families.
Dating from 1898 to the present, the two collections consist of approximately 200 feet of textual records, 10,000 photographic prints, 200 maps and plans, and a growing collection of textile heirlooms such as school uniforms. Textual records including minutes, correspondence, documents, manuscripts, newspaper clippings, materials published by the school, and financial and administrative files. These are complemented by photographic prints, negatives, sound and moving images, works of art on paper, and architectural drawings and plans.
The archives serve primarily the Crofton House School community and secondarily the public for reference and research purposes. All non-staff reference inquiries require the approval of the Head of School.
Although a comprehensive records management program regularly transfers official records to the archives, textual, photographic, and textile records from the wider school community, especially alumnae, are always welcome!
The archives office is located in the Old Residence. The Archivist will gladly take your appointment for a visit.
