Physical Education in the Junior School
It is our belief that children naturally love to move and are spontaneous in their activity. We strive therefore, to present students with activities in a fun and safe environment, fostering learning with joy and enthusiasm. We encourage the development of a positive attitude towards activity, and assist students in maintaining a healthy lifestyle throughout their years in the Junior School. In addition to physical skills, we endeavour to reinforce important social skills such as fair play, consideration of others, confidence, and appreciation of the abilities of others.
Athletics Co-Curricular Programs
To supplement our regular physical education classes and intramural activities, additional experiences are offered to our students through co-curricular activities outside regular school hours. Because we value inclusion, these opportunities are available to any student (grades 3 to 7) who wishes to participate. A wide range of activities are offered, both individual and team, through regularly scheduled practices. These are designed to reinforce basic skills, solidify team strategies, teach the value of commitment, and develop a positive attitude towards competition, teammates, opponents, spectators and officials.
Opportunities for competition within each sport are available among other ISA schools and community clubs. Generally, games are held on weekdays while tournaments and meets fall on weekends.
The program is organized into three terms with the following offerings:
| Term 1 | Term 2 | Term 3 |
|---|---|---|
| X-Country (Gr. 3 to 7) | Track and Field (Gr. 3 to 7) | |
| Volleyball (Gr. 5 to 7) | Basketball (Gr. 5 to 7) | |
| Field Hockey (Gr. 6 to 7) | Running Club (Gr. 3 to 7) |
