Library
Information literacy education is a key educational goal of the school. The Senior Library provides students with access to outstanding online subscription databases, an extensive selection of fiction and non-fiction books, daily newspapers and a variety of periodicals, and a growing media collection – all of which aim to support student learning, to provide the best resources for instructional support to teachers, and to promote a love of reading and independent inquiry.
In addition to maintaining the library collection, the Teacher-Librarians work collaboratively with teachers to integrate information literacy skills into the lessons and projects of various curricular areas. These skills are aligned with national and international standards of teaching and learning in the 21st century, and focus on teaching students effective ways to research and communicate information, ideas, and knowledge.
Students are also encouraged to participate in library activities, such as reviewing books, making submissions to writing contests, joining the student book club, and attending author events.
The new Wade Library facility includes a silent study room, and the Harriet Winspear Library Seminar Room. It also provides students with access to approximately 40 laptop computers, headsets, a digital camera, a smart board, printers and a copying machine, and a variety of other equipment.
We encourage all students to make full use of their library!
