Technology
Crofton House Senior School has a network of hard-wired and wireless desktop, tablet and laptop computers. Every teacher has their own tablet or laptop computer that can be used in classrooms equipped with ceiling-mounted, wireless data projectors, built-in audio systems and large projection screens. Class sets of tablets and laptops on portable carts are available for use in classrooms, and are all connected to our wireless network.
There is an ICT lab, and language lab, and film editing booths set up with desktop computers running specialized software. Computers are also located in small groups in the Science Centre, the Art Studio and the library. In addition, students may bring their own laptop to use for personal work, and in classes at the discretion of each course teacher.
The new amphitheatre contains a cinema-style projection screen and surround sound audio system. Our senior school has three portable interactive white boards and a fixed board in the ICT lab. Our networked environment gives the students access to network software, library resources, the Internet, and e-mail from any computer in the school. Each student has her own log-in and can save her work in a private directory on the network.
CHS has its own Internet server. This server gives students easy access to the Internet individually or as part of a class. Students must adhere to the school's Acceptable Use Policy in their use of the Internet and the school network.
The students use a variety of software for curriculum work, projects, and the development of technology skills: Microsoft Office suite for productivity and presentations, Adobe CS4 for multimedia and graphic creation; and for the production of films, Final Cut Pro.
Many of our courses make use of the school's Moodle site, a locally hosted course management system that allows students to access course work digitally, via a web browser. Students can upload and download course files, and participate in password protected forums, blogs, wikis and journals. In addition, students utilize our library's extensive online catalogue to find resources for curricular support, and use web 2.0 resources that expand learning opportunities.
It is not essential for your daughter to have the same software programs at home that she is using in school, as she will be able to use the computers in school for homework and project work before school, at lunch, and after school every day.
