Parent/Guardian Code of Conduct
Version: August 2025
“We, the community of Crofton House School, believe that everyone should behave in a manner that demonstrates mutual respect and an understanding of the rights and responsibilities of others. We promote a school environment that is free from all forms of discrimination, including discrimination on the basis of race, colour, ancestry, place of origin, religion, marital status, family status, physical or mental disability, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or age, as mandated by sections 7 and 8 of the BC Human Rights Code.”
Introduction
Parents/Guardians collaborate with the School in educating their children. The success of this partnership relies on establishing a shared understanding of expectations that contribute to a positive and nurturing environment. The Parent/Guardian Code of Conduct, the Enrolment Terms and Conditions, and written policies available on the MyCHS Community Portal form the basis for a community that prioritizes cooperation, communication, and a collective commitment to the well-being of our students.
Each year, parents/guardians must acknowledge their agreement to uphold the Parent/Guardian Code of Conduct and all policies that include written expectations of parents/guardians. If clarification on any aspect of these documents is required, seeking understanding before indicating consent or agreement is essential.
Aim
The Crofton House School Parent/Guardian Code of Conduct aims to establish a safe, caring and orderly learning environment in which each individual in the school community feels safe, accepted and respected. In this environment, collective efforts and resources are focused on optimizing student learning and fostering a supportive and engaged parents/guardian community.
A safe school – Crofton House School is where every individual feels secure in their well-being, identity, and opinions and where reporting concerns is encouraged.
A caring school – All Crofton House School community members look out for each other, are open-minded, empathic and inclusive; they strive to establish and maintain positive and healthy relationships.
An orderly school – Crofton House School is characterized by a climate of mutual respect with an appropriate balance between individual and collective rights, freedoms and responsibilities.
To be a Crofton House School community member, a parent/guardian will meet the conduct expectations described in this Code of Conduct. There are consequences for those who do not uphold the Code of Conduct, including dismissal from the CHS community.
Expected Conduct
Consistent adherence by parents/guardians to well-established conduct expectations, known and valued by all, contributes to the creation of a respectful and harmonious school environment. This emphasis on respect, collaboration, and inclusivity sets the tone for effective communication and robust partnerships between parents and the School. As a result, these positive dynamics become the norm, ultimately enriching students' educational experiences and outcomes.
The descriptions of expected conduct, described here and in the CHS Enrolment Terms and Conditions, are meant to provide general categories and are not intended to be exhaustive.

Inappropriate Conduct: Principles Guiding an Investigation
The School considers the Code of Conduct central to creating a welcoming and safe environment for all community members. When a parent’s/guardian’s conduct puts the School's safe, caring, and orderly learning environment at risk, the School has steps it will follow to investigate, and there may be consequences for the parent/guardian. The following principles will guide the investigation.
- Transparency: All community members should feel empowered to report breaches. If the School does not know, it cannot act.
- Communication: The involved parent(s)/guardian(s) should be promptly informed about any reported breaches to enable discussion and provide their perspective on the incident or situation.
- Equitable Discussion: All parties involved should be allowed to express their perspectives, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the incident or situation.
- Confidentiality: Preserving confidentiality throughout the investigation process is crucial, safeguarding the privacy of those involved while conducting discussions and reaching conclusions.
- Timeliness: Investigations should be conducted promptly to address the situation efficiently and prevent undue delays.
- Completion of Investigation: Conclusions or decisions will only be made after the investigation is fully conducted, ensuring that all aspects of the situation are thoroughly examined.
Crofton House School Reserves the Right
The School reserves the right to expel a student or end a family membership when the continued membership of that student and/or family would not be in that student's or the School's best interests.
