Whole Girl, Whole World Speaker Series
September 26, 2019 | Manrell Hall, Crofton House School
On September 26, 2019, Dr. Lisa Damour, renowned psychologist, author, columnist, teacher and expert on child development, will return to Crofton House to discuss her latest best-selling book: Under Pressure: Confronting the Epidemic of Stress and Anxiety in Girls.
In 2016, Lisa’s practical and inspirational message about raising girls in a complex world resounded with the CHS community. Her book, Untangled: Guiding Teenage Girls Through the Seven Transitions into Adulthood, continues to be a valued resource for parents and teachers alike. We are delighted to welcome Lisa back to continue the conversation that began with Untangled.
In Under Pressure, Lisa explores the healthy role stress and anxiety plays in normal development by helping girls stretch beyond their comfort zones while keeping them safe, and the idea that these benefits should be emphasized to girls. As her research reveals, current levels of stress and anxiety has risen to a degree that requires our attention and action. Based upon her knowledge and experience as a psychologist, Lisa offers helpful solutions when these tensions become too much - whether it is stress and anxiety at home, at school or around social interactions or social media. This book provides important research and ways to help understand and support today’s girls.

Best of the Holiday Season - December 22, 2018
The 2018 Holiday Season saw a few changes and a new addition to our annual alumnae events.
On December 22, 2018 we were pleased to host the return of our Young Alumnae Holiday Social at the Point Grey Golf and Country Club. Over 50 young alumnae came together to reconnect and celebrate the coming holiday festivities. The evening was very lively with the group spontaneously breaking out into singing the school song! Servabo Fidem!
Tradition is a large part of the CHS experience, and no tradition runs deeper than the Crofton House Carol Service although this year was saw a small but successful change! For the first time in over two decades the Carol Service and the Seasonal Social saw a change in venue but this didn’t change the strong spirit of community that the alumnae always bring to these events. The school was pleased to host the Seasonal Social at Cecil Green House where alumnae spanning five decades came together to share coffee and conversation before moving over to UBC Chan Centre for the annual Carol Service.

Crofton House was delighted to welcome Jessica Lahey, teacher and New York Times best-selling author and columnist, as this year’s Whole Girl, Whole World speaker.
