Inspirational Talks

Students across the school can expect to hear from a diverse group of visiting speakers, including CHS Alumnae.  Speakers share their wealth of experience, knowledge and personal journeys in fields including STEM, business and creative arts as well as global and local cultures.

Sabrina Leslie ’98, winner of the CHS Alumnae Association 2020 Alumnae Junior Achievement Award, associate professor at McGill University and entrepreneur, was on campus to talk to Junior and Senior School students. Pictured here, Sabrina spoke with the Entrepreneur 12 class about her experience as co-founder of a biomedical start-up, her work in STEM, and the process of applying for a patent.

Dr. Candace Kaleimamoowahinekapu Galla, an associate professor at UBC and hula master, visited the Grade 7 class for a week long instruction in the storytelling history of hula in Indigenous Hawaiian culture. She spoke of Mary Kawena Pukui, a revered scholar, dancer, and performer, and taught students the hula to Ke Ao Nani (The Beautiful World). The week culminated in all 60 Grade 7 students coming together to perform the dance.
