English+ Program

中文浏览

The English+ program at Crofton House School is an English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program designed to support students whose first language is not English. Students who enter the program may have attended English Language Learner (ELL) programs in the past or received academic language support from tutors outside of their school setting. The English+ program provides in-school support for these students to achieve the academic language fluency needed for high school and beyond. Support is balanced over five years in grades 8 to 12, with the most support happening in grades 8, 9, and 10. English+ students attend all regular classes with their grade-level classmates every year.  Their timetables are reduced by one elective in grades 8 and 9 and by a half-year elective in grade 10 to accommodate the additional English+  tutorial class.

A language assessment is required for entry into the English+ program. Additional program fees apply.

Read the detailed English+ program description in the Academic Handbook on page 37.

Applying for English+

The English+ program is available to families with daughters entering Grade 8 who:

  • Meet CHS admission requirements. We welcome applicants who show passion and commitment to their education, a strong desire to explore their potential, and will engage in the community, inside and outside the classroom. The same process and documentation are required for the English+ application process as a regular Grade 8 application with the addition of an English+ assessment.
  • Meet the English language proficiency requirements. Successful applicants are students whose first language is not English but who have had some schooling where English is the language of instruction. Proficiency is determined through an English+ Assessment, created by CM Global ($75) and administered by Crofton House School in November.

To be considered for the English+ program, families must select “YES” in the English+ Program portion of the admissions application and complete the English+ Assessment. Students who have applied to Crofton House will be notified on the Grade 8 shortlist whether they will continue in the admissions process.

Please refer to the English+ section in Step 1 of the How to Apply page for information on the Crofton House admissions process and to Admissions FAQs for important dates.

Tuition and Program Fees

In addition to annual Crofton House tuition fees, a one-time, non-refundable fee of $35,000 is paid in the first year of the English+ program to cover the five-year program.

There is a fee of $75 to complete the English+ Assessment as part of the English+ application process.
