The Board of Governors of Crofton House School is a group of dedicated, capable and willing individuals who volunteer their time and expertise. They share a love of the School, a deep commitment to its vision and an appreciation of the value of an extraordinary education for young women. The composition of the Board reflects the balance of expertise and perspectives needed to achieve the mission of the School. To this end, each Board member gives generously of his or her time, expertise and resources, and sits on up to two Board committees, depending on areas of interest.
Carolyn is the Chair of the Board of Governors. She has been on the Board since 2015, having previously served as the Vice Chair of the Board and Chair of the Bursary and Marketing Committee. She was actively involved in the development of the Crofton House School strategic plan, Beyond Buildings: Extraordinary Possibilities. A partner at Hunter Kirkwood, Carolyn is a management consultant with expertise in strategy and transformation, and particular experience in education. She is an alumna of Havergal College in Toronto and holds a B Comm from Queen’s University and a MSc Econ from the London School of Economics. Carolyn has one daughter at Crofton House.
Ross has served on the Board of Governors since 2016. He is currently the Treasurer of the Board and the Chair of the Finance Committee. He is a Portfolio Manager at Odlum Brown and Chair of its Board of Directors. Ross has a BA from the University of Victoria and is a CPA, CBV and CFA. He has one daughter who has graduated from Crofton House and another in the Senior School.
Carla has served on the Board of Governors since 2016 and is currently Chair of the Communications and Marketing Committee, having sat on the Committee since 2012. Carla is the Director of Marketing at MLA Canada, a company that offers real estate marketing services to developers. She has a BA in Communication and Design from Ryerson University. Carla’s daughter attended Crofton House from 2011 to 2018, leaving to pursue competitive skiing at a ski academy in Sun Valley, Idaho.
Suzanne became the Chair of the Parents’ Auxiliary in 2018 and joined the Board of Governors at that time. She co-chaired the Winter Bazaar in 2017 and, prior to that, was the Buddy Family Coordinator for the Parents’ Auxiliary. Suzanne has a BSc from Simon Fraser University and has held regulatory affairs and international marketing positions with medical device manufacturers. Suzanne has one daughter at Crofton House.
Lisa has served on the Board of Governors since 2011. She was previously the Chair of the Parents’ Auxiliary and is currently Chair of the Nomination and Governance Committee. Lisa is a member of the law society of BC and is currently Chief of Staff at HSBC. She has a BA from the University of British Columbia and a LLB from the University of Alberta. Lisa has two daughters who have graduated from Crofton House.
Susan has served on the Board of Governors since 2013. Susan was the principal of Havergal College, the Superintendent of the Calgary Girls’ School and an education consultant. In addition, she was Associate Dean of the Faculty of Education, University of Calgary and the Superintendent of Curriculum and Research and System Development, Calgary Board of Education. Currently, she serves on three boards at the University of Calgary and chairs the Program Committee of the International Women’s Forum, Calgary Chapter. Susan has a BEd, MA and PhD in Education from the University of Calgary.
Jennifer became the President of the CHS Alumnae Association in 2018 and joined the Board of Governors at that time. An alumna of Crofton House, Jennifer obtained an Arts degree from University of British Columbia (UBC), with a focus in Asian studies, before working for the BC government and liaising with the Province's office in Japan. Jennifer then obtained a teaching degree and taught in the Social Studies department at Crofton House. Jennifer has two daughters who have graduated from Crofton House.
Nancy has served on the Board of Governors since 2018. She is a Professor Emeritus of Economics at the University of British Columbia. Nancy was the Dean of Arts at UBC from 2002-2010 and, prior to joining UBC, was a Professor of Economics at the University of Toronto. Nancy is an alumna of Notre Dame High School in St. Louis, an all-girls’ high school; the University of Missouri at Columbia where she received a BA in math and MA in economics; and the University of California at Berkeley where she received a PhD in Resource Economics.
Ken has served on the Board of Governors since 2010. He has served on the Advancement Committee, the Crofton House School Foundation and has accompanied the Head of School on several trips to Asia. Having graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of British Columbia, Ken works as a dentist in with two practices in Richmond. He has one daughter who graduated from Crofton House.
Felix has served on the Board of Governors since 2019 and currently serves on the Advancement Committee. He has over 15 years’ experience in the real estate development and is the founder of TheNest Group, a development company, and Madoor, a high- tech company in Vancouver. Felix has one daughter at Crofton House.
Alan has served on the Finance Committee and as Chair for the Audit Sub-Committee since 2010, and Board of Governors since 2011. He works at a private real estate company in Vancouver. Alan has a BSc in Economics from the University College London, University of London and is a CA, CPA. Alan has one daughter at Crofton House.
Lori has been involved with Crofton House in several capacities since graduating from the School in 1988, including serving on the Bursary and Marketing Committee since its inception. She is vice-president of the Alumnae Association and joined the Board of Governors in 2018. Lori is a CPA, CA specializing in investigative and forensic accounting. She graduated from UBC in 1992 and has over 25 years of business and management experience. Lori has two daughters at Crofton House.
Craig has served on the Board of Governors since 2019 and is the Chair of the Advancement Committee. Craig is the Managing Director of Arbutus Grove Capital Corp. and has more than 25 years’ experience in corporate finance, investment banking and business development in both North America and Asia. He has a Bachelor of Commerce from UBC, an MBA from Dalhousie University and is a Chartered Financial Analyst. Craig is a former Chairman of the Family Services of Greater Vancouver and is the Immediate Past National Chairman of the Hong Kong – Canada Business Association (HKCBA). He has two daughters at Crofton House.
Martha has served on the Board of Governors since 2011. She was the President and Vice-Chancellor, University of British Columbia from 1997–2006, and the interim President and Vice-Chancellor from 2015–2016. She has served as a corporate director for Bank of Montreal, Shoppers Drug Mart, TransAlta Corporation and Grosvenor Properties Limited.
David has served on the Board of Governors since 2011 and is currently Chair of the Buildings and Grounds Committee. David works in commercial, industrial and residential real estate development and was very involved in the successful completion of the CHS Campus Master Plan. He has a B Comm from the University of British Columbia. David has three daughters who have graduated from Crofton House and another daughter in the Senior School.
Julie has served on the Board of Governors since 2017 and is currently Chair of the Risk Management Committee. She is the Head of Obstetrics and Gynecology at BC Women’s Hospital, an associate clinical professor in department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of British Columbia and the interim Vice President of Medical Affairs at BC Women’s Hospital. She received a Master’s Degree in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Ottawa before completing her MD at Dalhousie University. Julie has one daughter at Crofton House.
Michael has served on the Board of Governors since 2017 and the Finance Committee from 2015-2017. He was the CFO of Creation Technologies for over 18 years and is now a Director, Private Equity at Ardenton Capital Corporation. He has a BA from the University of Illinois and an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management. Michael has one daughter currently attending Crofton House and another who graduated in 2015.
