Shirley (McLeod) Giroday '48

Shirley (McLeod) Giroday '48 graduated UBC in 1951 (BA) and 1955 (LLB). She articled in 1955-56 and was called to bar in 1956, marrying Michael Giroday (LLB, UBC) in 1958. She practiced in Partnership with her husband (and others) in Dawson Creek 1958-68 and Powell River 1968-84, and was appointed Judge 1984.

Shirley was the first female lawyer in Northern BC, 1958 and among first in BC. She has six children, three of whom became lawyers: Lesley – a partner with Ratcliff & Co. in North Vancouver; Ian – a partner with Hobbs Giroday in Vancouver; and Patrick – with Heath & Company in Nanaimo.
