Crofton House School Strategic Plan 2015–2025

Crofton House is an extraordinary school. It has never stood still. 

From its inception in 1898, bold decisions have guided this exceptional learning environment. The school’s founder, Dr. Jessie Gordon, was ahead of her time in creating a school that allowed young women to reach their full potential.

As the era of re-building the campus nears completion, we have the opportunity to once again look to the future and make bold decisions about the direction of Crofton House School. The following strategic plan outlines a refined vision, mission, and set of values for the school, and identifies four strategic pillars that will guide our growth from 2015-2025.

A Crofton House education offers extraordinary possibilities. Each girl comes to the school to pursue the possibilities of a CHS education. She has extraordinary potential and embraces her complete education. As a graduate, she takes the extraordinary into the world, fulfilling the promise of her Crofton House School experience.

Courage is what young women need in order to develop the quality of character that will inspire a meaningful life – and what Crofton House graduates need to address the world's challenges. From courage comes empathy, confidence, and resilience.


Creativity leads us to innovation, collaboration, and initiative. It requires the spark of inspiration and grit of hard work, matched with curiosity, agility, and joy. Creativity will define student and teacher engagement in learning. It will provide an entry point for graduates as they look toward their future with confidence.


Citizenship is the full articulation of a Crofton House education. It signals our commitment to this community and the broader communities of Vancouver, Canada and the world, expressed through leadership, engagement, and agency. Citizenship takes our educational environment into the global community – where we live and shape the stories of the world.


Now more than ever, women are at the centre of the social, political, and economic dialogue acting with courage and integrity in the face of challenge and leading change.

We are witnessing bold changes in education and must match this boldness with our own vision for change at Crofton House School. To remain truly relevant, to provide an extraordinary education for girls, we must create a learning community that speaks to the future. We must ensure, through resources and best practices, that we are creating a school that inspires our students and teachers.

To accomplish this, we have created a strategic vision built on four pillars that will guide our growth over the next ten years (2015–2025).

1. Extraordinary Girls


Attract, admit and retain a diverse population of girls, regardless of financial circumstances, who will embrace and shape the unique opportunity of a Crofton House School education


  • Develop and implement an entrance scholarship and bursary program that supports each girl as a full participant in the community regardless of financial circumstances
  • Develop and implement ancillary programming to attract girls from a more economically diverse applicant pool
  • Develop and implement a funding strategy to support the CHS entrance scholarship and bursary program

2. Extraordinary Learning


Be a leader in girls’ education, providing an exemplary learning environment and rich programs that inspire each girl to pursue her personal excellence


  • Refine and strengthen the Crofton House School JK-12 program to support the development of the whole girl 

3. Extraordinary Teachers


Attract, develop, retain, and recognize extraordinary teachers


  • Develop a teacher profile that articulates the skills, knowledge, habits of mind, and aptitudes of a Crofton House School teacher
  • Develop and implement a complementary professional growth program

4. Extraordinary Community


Create a vibrant Crofton House School community by engaging in intentional external partnerships that contribute to the broader community


  • Develop and implement a comprehensive internal engagement plan that creates a strong, inclusive community by actively supporting the CHS 
  • Parents’ Auxiliary
  • Identify and establish intentional external partnerships that contribute positively to the local and wider communities
  • Build a strong, active alumnae relations program that strengthens our school community and honours its history
