Before the first frosts of winter hit, our Junior and Senior Kindergarten students took the opportunity to plant tulip and garlic bulbs, learning all about seeds in the process.
Early Childhood Education Centre
A safe, playful and nurturing environment for girls in Junior and Senior Kindergarten
Our Early Childhood Education (ECE) Centre is a special place where girls begin their love of learning. Girls make friends, play and discover in bright, light-filled classrooms where every detail-from the tiny sinks to the open, neutral spaces for displaying the girls’ creations-is intentionally designed for our youngest learners. In protected outdoor spaces, girls become curious explorers of the world, unleashing their imaginations in the Mini Woods, planting in the garden or having fun on the playground.
Learning is play-based and incorporates the best of multiple approaches to early childhood education with research-proven strategies for young learners. Through play, girls become imaginative students as they develop fundamental literacy and numeracy skills. Research shows that a play-based approach to learning in the early years develops critical and creative thinkers who learn to communicate and work well with others, allowing girls to learn self-regulation and social skills.
Each day is designed around our youngest students’ needs. Students have daily physical education and unstructured outdoor play, eat a nutritious hot lunch together and are immersed in a technology-free environment. Throughout the day, there are opportunities for quiet, reflective time, and time to apply and extend learning through inquiry projects, art and dramatic play.
Intimate class sizes and caring and experienced early childhood educators help ease the transition from home to school. Parents also play an important role in their daughters’ education, whether it’s as lunchtime volunteers or through regular communication with teachers.
“The Early Childhood Education Centre is a place of fun and laughter, challenge and rewards, imagination and play, support and love. It is a place of pure magic and joy.”
Karrie Beauchamp | Coordinator, Early Childhood Education Centre
